About the Course

Indigenous men in Canada face some of the most complex and urgent health disparities in the country. Decolonizing Men’s Health is a bold and necessary conversation that examines how colonization, systemic racism, intergenerational trauma, and gendered expectations have impacted the well-being of Indigenous men.

This course unpacks the historical and contemporary forces shaping Indigenous male health—while also centring Indigenous teachings, cultural strengths, and community-based approaches to healing. Participants will be invited into a courageous dialogue that bridges public health, cultural safety, and decolonial thinking.

Together, we’ll explore what it means to hold space for Indigenous men to thrive—mentally, physically, spiritually, and emotionally—beyond stereotypes, stigmas, and systems of harm.

Main learning ideas:

  • Gain a high-level understanding of the current state of Indigenous men’s health in Canada, including key statistics and determinants.

  • Examine the impacts of colonization, trauma, toxic masculinity, and lateral violence on Indigenous men’s mental and physical well-being.

  • Learn about the role of identity, land-based healing, cultural teachings, and language in restoring wellness for Indigenous men.
